Don’t Be a Soul Sucker

Oddly, I woke up this morning with a very simplifying realization about creating success with my personal relationships. My thoughts were on my wife. It’s crazy that after 19 years together I still find myself trying to figure out what I can do to make her happy. What actions can I take? Do they target “her” love language? I should probably make a list of these actions and start implementing them…. 🙂

And that is when the realization came… Hey buddy, stop thinking so much about the specific “checklist” of actions and start focusing simply on how you make her feel.

Yes. How do all of my daily actions with her make her feel? As the thought settled, the clarity came, making her happy is simply about how I make her feel at all times, not just every once in a while with a more grandiose action. Now, that’s not a free pass to not do anything special, but she will certainly feel special seeing and knowing that I have considered her happiness in my approach to all things all the time.

Two lessons here to tie this to business:

Lesson 1. How do your words and actions make other people feel? Your words and actions hold a lot of power! Do you use them to build up and bring light or are you a soul sucker who leaves others feeling freshly beaten or depleted?! 🙂

Lesson 2. How thoughtful and considerate are you of others? We certainly show everyone around us how much we actually care by how much we think of and consider them. This includes, friends, family, co-workers, clients etc.

Final Statement: Bring the light. Be a builder. Be considerate. Truly love your people, they will feel that and they will love you back!
